Creating a stress-free and simplified home is essential for everyone. Your home should be a place where you should feel safe, peaceful and a place you love to be in. In this episode I will give you 5 tips on how to achieve that in a very simple way.

What is a simplified Home?

A simplified home isn’t just about only one thing. It involves many elements and takes time to create. It’s an ongoing process, because a home should be alive and not like when you have designed a room you'll save it like that for ever, right. You might want to make small changes here and there.

I enjoy refreshing my home regularly because it keeps things interesting and I get bored when looking at the same things for ever. I always want to do some adjustments. That's also because I like home decor and always looking for improvements. Over the past few years, I’ve moved a lot, and each move gave me a chance to declutter and start fresh.

My current home has evolved over the 5 years I’ve lived there, and it’s more and more aligned with the style I like. I don't want to spend too much money on home decor and stuff so for me it's definitely an on going process. I also like to shop second hand. I think that gives a space an interesting approach with both old and new items.

Preparing the wardrobe for the Fall Season

One of my favorite activities is preparing my wardrobe for fall season. Here’s how I do it:

  1. Take everything out of the wardrobe.

  2. Sort your clothes into categories.

  3. Clean all shelves, surfaces, and the floor.

  4. Put back only the clothes you love and need.

Doing this in August, before the new season begins, brings fresh energy into your home and helps you feel ready for the autumn. So now is a perfect time for that.

5 Steps to a stress-free and simple home

Here are my top 5 tips for creating a comfortable and loving home:

  1. Tidy up every day

  2. Schedule a full home decluttering before each new season

  3. Incorporate decluttering and tidying into your lifestyle

  4. Create open spaces

  5. Add plants

Daily Tidying

Tidying up every day might sound overwhelming, but if you do a deep clean once a week, you only need to spend 10 minutes each day maintaining it. A clean home reduces stress and helps you feel more balanced and calm. The 10 minutes rule is a great way to keep your home nice and clean without being stressed out.

Seasonal Decluttering

Before each new season I use to declutter my entire home. It’s a refreshing way to start the season with a clean space. If you stick to the 10 minutes cleaning rule as a daily habit you also makes your seasonal decluttering easier.

Make Decluttering as your Lifestyle

Don’t let clutter build up. A daily 10-minute tidying session can prevent your home from becoming chaotic. This small habit can make a big difference to keep a stress-free space in your home. I have a very good rule and that is "one in one out" which means when you add something to your home you also have to get rid of something to avoid a jam packed space. The best thing is to get rid of something in the same category as you add, but if you can't just take something in another category. What I mean is when adding something to your kitchen declutter something from you kitchen and so on.

Create Open Spaces

When you're having your seasonal decluttering don't forget the furniture and other big items. That creates open spaces which help you clear your mind and bring a sense of calm. Then the energy can move around easier and will also avoid having stagnated spaces. If you have a lot of stuff in a corner for example there will immediately be stagnant energy there. Consider also creating a meditation space where you can relax and plan your life when you have made an open area in a room.

Add Plants

Plants are good for your health. Many plants also give extra oxygen to the air and for your lungs. When having more plants and flowers in your home you don't have to have so much other stuff like trinkets or so. Plants are very beautiful as they are and there´s no need to add so many unnecessary things. You might say that plants are unnecessary, but I would say the opposite. Plants are very necessary for your health and to feel good. I can't imagine my home without plants, but we all think differently. If you don't have plants or just a few I would say you would feel good having plants around you. If you're allergic there´s always plants to choose. Many sorts of greens. Ask the florist if you're uncertain.

Last but not least - Take Action

Creating a simplified and stress-free home is a journey and it takes time. If you think it's overwhelming, just start with a small area (a drawer or a kitchen cabinet. If you start small and not getting into a full home decluttering in a weekend you will avoid being stressed and bored out. I mean it. Don't make everything at the same time and you can continue to feel amazing when you have managed to create a drawer in a week or so. I have made all that mistakes and I know it could be very frustrating, but all the times I have been taking it slowly the outcome is always a satisfying feeling in my heart and soul.
